Longtime Burlington, Colorado resident Anne Collins, age 71, died Monday November 8, 2010 at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington. She was born Virginia Anne Sauer on April 8, 1939 in Garden City, Kansas the daughter of Pias Nicholas and Louise Maryann (Jacobs) Sauer. Anne attended High School in Denver, Colorado and then put herself through nursing school in Colby, Kansas, where she received her nursing degree. While in Denver she managed Denver Medical Supply, she worked as a “pool” Nurse, and also in the G.I. lab at St. Joseph Hospital. After moving to Burlington she was the administrator of Grace Manor Care Center for twelve years. Anne‘s joy was spending time with her grandkids. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking and collecting recipes, though much of her spare time was consumed with reading. On November 18, 1997, she was united in marriage to Douglas Wade Collins in Alma, Nebraska. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Jolleen Hukill, two brothers Eugene Sauer and George Sauer. Surviving family members include her husband Doug of Alma, NE, two daughters Debra Anne Matthews of Denver, CO, Anetta Marie Rieber and husband Skip of Burlington, CO. A step-daughter Lanna Bishop and husband Paul of Kearney, NE. Two sons Jerome “Jerry” Hukill of Goodland, KS, and Kevin Wolbach and wife Jamie of Otis, CO. She is also survived by a brother Charlie Sauer of Denver, CO, twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
