Antoinette Catharina “Katie� ten Brummeler, age 87 passed away October 29, 2005 at the Lincoln Community Hospital in Hugo, Colorado. Antoinette was born September 10, 1918 in Banjoewangi, Indonesia to Jacobus Martinus Smit and Alida Johanna de Clercq Zubli. Antoinette graduated from High School in the Hague, Netherlands in 1937. As a young woman she lived in the Netherlands and Indonesia. During World War II Antoinette and much of her family were held in a Japanese concentration camp in Indonesia. In 1950 she worked in Hong Kong for the Royal Interocean Lines. In 1953 she married Willem ten Brummeler in Hong Kong. To this union two children were born Erik and Ingrid. In 1956 they moved their family to the United States first working in California and later in Colorado Springs. Following a divorce Antoinette became a dorm receptionist for Colorado College in Colorado Springs for 20 years. Antoinette was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She enjoyed studying the Bible, reading, taking walks, knitting, crocheting and visiting her grandchildren in Tennessee. Antoinette was preceded in death by her parents. Antoinette is survived by one son Erik and wife Lynette ten Brummeler of Hendersonville, Tenn. One daughter Ingrid and husband Jeff Betts of Kiowa, CO. A half brother Jacobus and wife Charnee Smit of San Leandro, CA, and a half sister Carla Shaffer in the Netherlands. Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Tiffany and husband Joey DiDomenico and their children Emma and Preston of Smyrna, Tenn; Kelsey and husband Daniel MacIntosh of Charleston, SC; and Bridgit ten Brummeler of Hendersonville, Tenn. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family both in Europe and the United States. Two services were held for Antoinette, a Service of Remembrance and reception at the Love Funeral Home on Friday, November 4, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. and a Memorial Service at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Sunday, November 6, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. in Limon, CO.
