August "Pete" Kern, Jr

August Samuel Kern Jr., 83, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Weisbrod Memorial Hospital in Eads, Colorado. The man that everyone knew as “Pete” was born on July 20, 1926 at the Cheyenne Wells Hospital to Ila and August Kern. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Cheyenne Wells Schools up through the 8th grade. At this time, Pete quit school to devote working on the farm full time with his father. He was a simple man with simple tastes whose only real love in life was the farm and his animals. Over the years, Pete became a very successful farmer and rancher and was also a partner for many years at Plains Feeders in Burlington. Pete, in many ways was one of a kind. He was a unique man who dedicated his entire life to farming the land he loved and always did things his way. He is survived by his sisters, Iris Mckellips (Cheyenne Wells), Christine Hamilton and Virginia Kern (Mesa AZ) many nieces and nephews and extended family. We will all miss him. He is preceded in death by his parents Ila and August Kern, sisters Josephine and Helen and brother Bill.
