Belle Danforth was born on April 13, 1913 to Lewis and Bliss Clark. She was the second child of eight children born to her parents. She grew up in Stratton, Colorado where she attended school and graduated in 1930. Belle attended one year of college in Greeley and returned to Stratton to teach school.
She married George Danforth on November 20, 1932 and they had two children. Daughter Dolores was born in March of 1935 and son George (Gerry) was born in May of 1937. Her husband George was an engineer for the state highway department and they lived in many different towns in Colorado, Nevada and Washington. They moved to Wray, Colorado in 1948 where her two children graduated from high school. They then moved to Yuma for three years and then Boulder for thirteen years before returning to Stratton in 1973. During the time in Wray, Yuma, Boulder and Stratton, Belle was a secretary and an accountant in the public schools.
She was a life long member of the Methodist Church and a longtime member of the Colorado Association of Educational Secretaries and she was a past president.
She is preceded in death by her husband George (1997) and her daughter Delores (1989).
She is survived by two of her sisters, one brother and her son George.
Graveside services for Belle were held on Friday, December 8, 2006 at 1:00 PM at the Claremont Cemetery with Pastor Sione Tukutau officiating.
Memorials made be made in Belleâs name to the Stratton Methodist Church and may be left at the First National Bank, Stratton, Colorado.
