Beulah P. Schahrer

February 19, 1932 — May 20, 2018

Beulah passed away in Longmont, Colorado on Sunday evening May 20th, 2018.  She was 86 years old.

Beulah was born to John and Rosina (Bauder) Schaal on February 19th, 1932 near Burlington, Colorado.  She grew up with 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

She attended Smoky Hill School south of Burlington and Emerson School north of Burlington.  She then attended Burlington High School during her 9th & 10th grades, and finished her 11th & 12th grades by correspondence through American School of Chicago Illinois.

As a young lady in her 20’s in the 1950’s she worked in Ogallala Nebraska and Rapid City, South Dakota, before going to Denver in 1954, where she worked for the Mountain Bell telephone company, as a long distance operator.  She was promoted to long distance supervisor within 6 months, where she continued until her return to Burlington to marry the love of her life, Carroll Schahrer in 1958 on Easter Sunday.

Carroll and Beulah were overjoyed by the birth of their son Clinton, and again by the birth of their daughter Renee.

She worked side by side with her husband on their farm, driving tractor, doing chores, and helping him whenever she was needed; which she always enjoyed being outside.

Beulah was baptized as an infant in the Burlington United Methodist Church, where she was also confirmed and married.  She was a member all of her life.

She was also a member of “The Young Mothers” group, which Bernice Eberhart organized, for 16 years while her children were growing up.  She was a member sometimes serving as President of the Comet Rebekah Lodge for 55 years until they disbanded.  She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Post #6491 for 60 years from 1958 to 2018, serving several times as President for the VFW Ladies.

She was the 4-H leader of the Nimble Thimbles 4-H club for 10 and 11 year old members.  Beulah was an accomplished seamstress her whole life as she took 12 years of sewing in 4-H.  She made most of her clothes, including her wedding dress, and most of her children’s clothes.

Along with Vic Whitmore and Helen Ancell, Beulah helped start the Burlington United Methodist Quilters in 1972.  At that time, the quilters would spend 4 hours twice a week quilting for both members and other people.  For Beulah, hand piecing quilts was a high priority along with hand quilting.

She also enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening, and working in her yard.  She always enjoyed her many beautiful flowers, and especially loved to share them with her friends!

After the death of her husband in 1984, she started working at Red Front Grocery as night manager and checker for 18 years.  Beulah thoroughly enjoyed working there, and met many wonderful people & friends.

Her families and her church were Beulah’s life-long highest priorities.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carroll, both of her parents, (John & Rosina), two brothers (Lawrence and Rudy), one sister (Josie), and several nieces and nephews.

Beulah is survived by her son Clinton, his wife Jeanette, grandsons Cameron, David , Thomas; her daughter Renee and her husband Brian; her brother Elmer (Beverly); sisters Ruby (Munson) and Wilma (Sanchez); along with many loving nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.  And many many friends.
