A fund has been established for the respiratory department of Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in memory of Lee.

Beverly Lee Knox, daughter of Homer and Madolin Whetstine, was born in Fort Morgan on October 2, 1931, and passed away at her home in Burlington on Wednesday, October 11, 1989, following a long illness.

She grew up in Fort Morgan, attending schools there and graduating from high school in 1949. She was a classmate of her husband-to-be Jim, whom she married on Father’s Day, June 17, 1951. Lee and Jim became the parents of four: Randy, Jamie, Kevin, and Heide.

Following her husband’s graduation from Colorado University’s School of Pharmacy in 1954, the couple returned to Fort Morgan, where Jim worked until 1964, when the family moved to Burlington.

Lee was a member of the Hoepner Circle of the United Methodist Church and the Burlington Investment Club. She held all the offices in Quo Vadis, a federated women’s club.

Instrumental in establishing the Wee-Blew Inn school, where Heide was a charter member, Lee served on the board for several years.

Most recently, she became interested in the local library, serving on the board since 1978 and holding all the offices. Lee continued on the library board throughout her illness, with visions of a new library.

Lee took great joy in her family, especially her six grandchildren. She loved carousels and was thrilled with the restoration of the P.T.C. No. 6 Carousel at the fairgrounds in Burlington.

She is survived by her husband Jim and daughter, Heide of the home, son Randy and Nikki Knox and their children, Michael, Sheena, Randy J. and Kirra, Burlington; daughter Jamie and Steve Reed and sons Harper and Dylan, Greeley; son Kevin Knox, Denver; and her mother and sister, Madolin Whetstine of Longmont and Rae Herbert of California.
