Carol Leigh Hendricks was born on June 14, 1929, in Canon City, Colorado to Samuel and Grace (Perry) Hendricks. She was born at home as were most children of that time and was welcomed by older sisters Violet and Lillian. Maybelle and Samuel “Bud” would join the family a few years later. The family moved to Genoa where her father ran the Skelly station for a few years before moving to a farm northeast of Genoa. The family returned to Genoa in 1939 and ran a general store.
Carol attended school in Genoa, graduating in 1947. She followed her older sisters to California in hopes of finding work. After a couple of months, she returned to Colorado and attended Colorado State College of Education in Greeley to become a teacher. She was awarded a teaching certificate and took her first position at Genoa in 1948. A position at the Ninaview School in Bent County came open and the Ninaview school district approached her about teaching in a new schoolhouse near the Jones ranch.
Carol married Forrest Noble Jones in La Jaunta, Colorado on December 30, 1950. They made their home on the Jones ranch. Noble died on February 3, 1963. Carol remained on the ranch until she moved to Genoa in 2019 due to declining health. She died peacefully on November 5, 2022, at Lincoln Health after suffering a stroke several days earlier.
