Cyrus Willard Pearson, age 84, departed this life for his heavenly home on October 21, 2022 at the hospital in Tribune, KS. He was surrounded by family and friends.
Cyrus was born to Willard and Lois (Pinkerton) Pearson on December 8, 1937 in Phillips County, Kansas. When Cyrus was a boy, they left the farm in Kansas and went to Adams County, Colorado where he finished school.
Cyrus married Peggy Jean Welsh on October 15, 1968. They celebrated 54 years of marriage right before his passing. To their union came Gloria Townsend, Larry Townsend, Stanley Townsend, and Lisa Pearson. Cy loved his wife, his children, and grand-kids, and prayed for them daily.
Cy was a dedicated provider and accomplished many things over the course of his life. He served in the US Navy after high school, and worked for the US Postal Service where he retired as Postmaster. He worked for KN Energy, Wallace County. Sheriff’s Office, the Port of Corpus Christi, TX. and served in the Kansas National Guard. He received training in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Cy was known to be able to fix most things, but his passion was knife making. He made his first knife at the age of 8 and began making custom knives using only hand tools in the late 70’s. Cy traveled the Gun Show circuit in South Texas selling knives and honing his craft. He enjoyed giving knife classes, always hoping a ‘young buck’ would catch the bug.
Cyrus is survived by his wife, Peggy Pearson, children: Gloria Robinson, husband Greg, Larry Townsend, wife Cindy, Stanley Townsend, wife Tonia, Lisa Dewees, husband Rick, 12 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.
Cyrus is preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Cyrus’s life and faith on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 10:30am at Gateway to Grace Church, 201 E. 2nd, Sharon Springs, KS. Pastor Rick Dewees officiating.
