On Monday, April 17, 2023, Daniel Paul Metcalf went home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 90.
Daniel Paul was born on March 12, 1933 in Exeter, MO to William Sherman and Mary Goldie (Ware) Metcalf. He was the 4th of 7 children and had a twin brother who died at birth.
After graduating from Limon High School in 1952, he served in the army for three years at the time of the Korean war. He worked as a city employee or trustee for the town of Limon, CO for a total of 39 years. A proclamation in his honor was awarded to him by the town in 2012 recognizing his commitment to making Limon a better place to live. In between his working years in Limon, he was employed as Town Manager for Yuma, CO for 16 years.
He married the love of his life, Bettie Rae Plumb, on December 16, 1956. They were married for 54 years. They had two daughters; Melody Gay and Cindy Kay. Bettie passed away in 2011. He was blessed to marry again to the lovely Millie (Hohmann) on Valentine’s Day 2017. They were married for 6 years and lived in Shawnee, OK.
Paul loved music, hunting, fishing, and most of all being with his family and friends at any kind of gathering. He was very involved in his community serving in various organizations, and active in his church. He also had a kind and caring heart for homeless animals.
Paul was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettie; parents, Sherman and Goldie Metcalf; his twin brother David; brothers Jim, William, Aaron Metcalf and wife Rosie; brother-in-law Wilbert Perlenfein; and nephew Miles Metcalf. He is survived by his second wife, Millie; his daughters Melody (Justin) Straub from Wichita, KS and Cindy (Herman) Schledwitz, from Valley Center, CA; his grandchildren Stephanie (Troy) Yeager from Valparaiso, IN, Gavin Straub from Colorado Springs, CO, Raymond (Amy) Schledwitz from Lubbock, TX, and Sara (Elvis) Toledano from Valley Center, CA; great-grandchildren Kyle Schledwitz, Elsa and Athena Toledano; his sister Della Perlenfein, his brother Sherman (MarthaAnn) Metcalf; sister-in-law Carrie Mae Metcalf; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws including members of Bettie’s and Millie’s families.
A grave side memorial service will be planned at a later date.
