Donald McKee, longtime resident of Idalia, Colorado and Black Forest Colorado passed away on February 20, 2023. Donald was born on September 29th, 1930 in Wray, Colorado to Earl and Freda (Hartman) McKee and grew up in the area.
On June 2, 1951 he married the love of his life, Bonnie (Walters) McKee. To this union were born three sons and one daughter, Bobby, Billy, Peggy and Bruce.
Donald and Bonnie were blessed to live in many places including Midland, Michigan where he worked for Dodge-Chrysler for 2 years. They moved back to Idalia where Donald began working with his father Earl on the family farm. In 1959 they moved to Dighton, Kansas where he worked for a farmer and rancher and Hasz Drilling in Scott City, Kansas.
In 1961 he again returned to Idalia and purchased the family farm. In later years he raised cattle, sheep and hogs. He also custom cut crops for various farmers. He started McKee Irrigation Pump in 1975 and purchased Black Forest Liquor in 1979. Donald ran the store in his spare time.
He loved to hunt elk and bear and enjoyed playing pool and softball in his younger years.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Freda (Hartman) McKee, his sister Earlene McKee Brenner and his beloved wife Bonnie (Walters) McKee.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his children Bob McKee, Bill McKee, Peggy Stone and Bruce McKee, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and numerous friends.
Funeral Services for Donald will be held at 11 am, Saturday March 4, 2023 at St. John Church 28591 County Road 7, Idalia, CO 80735 with Pastor Bob Higgins officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery.
