Douglas Simon

November 2, 1926 — November 12, 2005

Douglas Eugene Simon, born in Hobart, OK on November 2, 1926 to Edward L. and Iva G. Simon, left us heading for heaven on November 12, 2005. He was one of six children. Doug married his sweetheart, Mary Lynne Miley in Denver, CO on January 18, 1951 and to this union four children were born. In October of 1951 he set a bull-dogging record in New York at Madison Square Garden that still stands today. Doug rodeoed forty years across the lower 48 states and Canada. Along with rodeoing he spent most of his life as a contractor in the underground pipe cleaning business first with his father and brothers and later with his sons. Doug was a member of the Cowboy Turtles Association, Gold Card Member of RCA prior to it being called PRCA and a member of the Old timer’s Wild Bunch. Doug was also a member of the Rociata Baptist Church in Rociata, New Mexico. Doug is preceded in death by his parents Doc and Iva Simon, a brother; Milt Simon, and one nephew; Brian Arfsten. Doug is survived by his loving wife of almost 55 years, Mary, three sons; Todd (Jolene) Simon of Brush, CO, Mike (Janet) Simon of Eagle Nest, NM, Mick (Ramona) Simon of Italy, TX, one daughter; Debbie (Bill) Lowry of Abilene, TX, one brother; Toy Simon of Grand Junction, CO, and three sisters; Erma Jean (Frank) Wayt of Longmont, CO, Julane (Keith) Arfsten of Elizabeth, CO, Kandy (Larry) Bohrer of Ordway, CO, thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends all across the country complete the list of those who will miss him. Funeral services for Doug were held Thursday, November 17, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at the Love Funeral Home Chapel in Limon, CO. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Burial followed at Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon, CO. Memorials are suggested to the Douglas Simon Family in care of the Love Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188, Limon, CO 80828.
