E. Jewell Bradley

Eulalia Jewell Bradley age 88, of Mitchell, Nebraska and formerly of Victor, Limon and Kiowa, Colorado passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the Mitchell Care Center in Mitchell, Nebraska. She was born the second daughter of William and Birdie Susan Porter at Trousdale, Kansas on December 30, 1923. She spent her childhood and youth in the Trousdale community. She loved music and learned to play the piano and guitar at an early age. She entertained many surrounding communities with her playing of the guitar and singing. She volunteered her love for music whereever she was needed from Jr. High until she retired. Jewell attended Trousdale Grade School and High School, graduating in May of 1941. She attended Fort Hays Kansas State College receiving her teaching certificate. She taught school her first year in a one-room school house, northeast of Haveland, Kansas. The second year she was the fifth grade teacher in the Haveland Elementary School. After four years of dating, she married Joseph Bradley on November 5, 1944 at Trousdale Methodist Church. They resided on his grandpa Bradley's farm until 1945, when they spent the next 2 years at Victor, Colorado on a ranch and dairy farm. Her first daughter, Lois Ann, was born here. In 1948, they moved from Victor to Limon, Colorado, going into partnership with his parents. Janice Jo and Joseph David were born while there. In 1957, they purchased a ranch 17 miles northeast of Kiowa, Colorado. Jewell always worked side by side with her husband on the farm/ranch and with his insurance business. She was a faithful member of the Kiowa Presbyterian Church, the Sunshine Homemaker's Club, the Kiowa Ladies Aid, was a member for several years of the Elbert County Cattlewomen and Elbert County Farm Bureau. She will be remembered as the organist at the Kiowa church for several years. She also served as a 4-H club leader for seven years. In 1998, she and Joe retired and moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska to be near her son and family. For the past several years, she has resided at Wel-Life Assisted Living in Scottsbluff, Nebraska and most recently at the Mitchell Care Center in Mitchell, Nebraska. She was never a stranger to anyone. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. She loved to play guitar and sing to them and was always ready to play games with them. She attended all of their activities as best she could. Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Lois; her husband, Joe; and her two lovely daughters, Janice Jo in 1961 and Lois Ann in 1993. Jewell is survived by her son, David and his wife, Shelley of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Her son-in-law Don Rector of California. Grandchildren include Ed (Kelly) Rector of Columbia, California; Marlene (Dan) Friend of Independence, Missouri; Kyle (Heidi) Bradley of Castle Rock, Colorado; Kobie Bradley of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Kaden Bradley of Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Great-Granchildren include Christa and Laura Friend, Taylor and Nicholena Rector and Cadence and Braydon Bradley. She will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
