Elva Pearl (Burtis) Read, age 86 of Limon, Colorado passed away December 17, 2005 at Hugo, Colorado. Elva was born November 9, 1919 in Imperial, Nebraska to George Ira and Neva (Kimberling) Burtis. Elva married Charles Read on July 4, 1939 in Champion, Nebraska. To this union two children were born. Elva was a member of the High Plains Baptist Church in Limon, the Colorado Cow Bell’s Women’s Association, the Lyon’s Auxiliary of Colorado Springs, and the president of EPPICA a women’s group at the First Baptist Church in Morris, Illinois. Elva enjoyed making crafts, cooking and baking she liked to keep her hands busy doing something. When she was a child she learned to say the alphabet backwards and she would always amaze children with that ability. Elva was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers Robert, Hubert, and Dean, a sister-in-law Maxine Burtis, and a brother-in-law Roland Taylor. Elva is survived by one son Jim and wife Francie Read of Limon, Colorado. One Daughter Katherine Kreiling of Ashland, Ohio. Two brothers Donald Burtis of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Ralph and wife Lucille Burtis of Tracy, California. One sister Leona Taylor of Sheridan, Wyoming, and a sister-in-law Roma Jean Burtis of Imperial, Nebraska. Four grandchildren and six great grandchildren: Pam and husband Tom Brown and their children Erica, and Jonathan of Limon, Colorado; Nyhma and husband William Glenn Tramel and their children Cyrel, Cyle and Christopher Glenn of Killeen, Texas; Celinda and husband Robert Kerr and their son Bryan of Ashland, Ohio; Ronnita and husband Patrick Norval of Northville, Michigan. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hi-Plains Baptist Church in Limon, Colorado with Pastor Greg Scherrer officiating. Burial will follow in the Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2005 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Love Funeral Home in Limon. Memorials are suggested to the Hi-Plains Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 158 Limon, CO 80828. Service arrangements were made by Love Funeral Home of Limon, CO.
