Gary William “GW” Brown passed away October 8, 2023. He was born May 22, 1947, in El
Paso, Texas, to Jack and Patricia (Brooks) Brown. His family later moved to Illinois where he
was a graduate of Rich Township High School in Olympia Fields, Illinois, graduating in 1965.
Upon graduation, GW enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country in
Vietnam. He then returned from the service and worked for Flying Tigers Airline. GW started his
family in Arcadia, California, where he met his first wife Kathleen. To this union, four children
were born.
He began his career in law enforcement as a police officer in Ottumwa, Iowa, alongside his
brother Mickey.
GW continued his police career when he moved to Colorado Springs, where he then met his
wife of 31 years, Leslie, and expanded his family with two more sons. Retiring from the CSPD in
early 2007, GW then continued his passion and lifelong dream of ranching and running cattle.
While enjoying retirement, he attended sporting events of his children and grandchildren,
heckling officials the whole way through. Serving his community, GW sometimes coached youth
sports. Going fishing and golfing were some of his favorite hobbies, he also loved to visit with
friends and enjoyed road trips while eating good food and making friends along the way. GW
made an impact on nearly everyone he came in contact with, as we all know, never meeting a
stranger and always having a kind word.
Most importantly, GW was a proud and faithful servant of the Lord, teaching his children and
family to love and honor God in the same way he did.
GW is preceded in death by his father Jack Brown, mother Patricia Brown, and brothers Michael
"Mickey" Brown and Patrick Brown.
GW is survived by his wife Leslie Brown, children Kelly Prosser, Michael Brown (Joanna), Kevin
Brown, Patrick Brown, Matthew Brown (Zoe), and John Brown (Kayla). His grandchildren Leo
Prosser (Kegan), Lily Hill (Darian), Jack Blasingame, Jonathan Brown (Paige), Mackenzie
Brown, Benjamin Gary Brown, Macey Brown and Jordyn Brown. Great grandchildren Harper
Brown, Hayden Brown, and Tresten Hill. Niece and Nephews, Janie Chalem and family, Jimmy
Brown and family, David Brown and family.
"Look not mournfully into the past, it comes not back again. Wisely improve the present, it is
thine. Go forth to meet the shadowy future without fear and with a manly heart."
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
