Gene Williamson

Longtime Burlington, Colorado resident Arthur Eugene (Gene) Williamson passed away on January 18, 2006 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington. He was 87 years old. Gene was born on October 5, 1918 to Aubrey and Ida Mae (Maupin) Williamson. He was an only child. Gene attended school in Moberly, Missouri up through the eleventh grade. On February 7, 1942, Gene married Marjorie Williams in Little Rock, Arkansas. To this union one daughter Delores was born. Gene spent several years in the Army during WWII. He was wounded in Holland and received the Purple Heart along with the Bronze Medal. Gene was a lifetime member of the Burlington VFW, he was the Mayor of Burlington for two terms, he enjoyed announcing for the Babe Ruth Baseball tournaments; fishing, bowling and golfing. Gene was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Marge of the home, one daughter Delores Jacobson and her husband Larry of Burlington; two granddaughters Lori Diaz and her husband Victor of Burlington and Leann Carlin and her husband Grant also of Burlington, and four great grandchildren; Tyler and Amanda Diaz and Lance and Chad Carlin. Gene is also survived by an aunt Dorothy Harvey of Macon, Missouri, several cousins, and a lifelong friend Wilson Stone of Brookfield. Missouri. Graveside services for Mr. Williamson were held on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington with Military Honors provided by the Burlington VFW Post. Pastor Ralph Datema was the officiant. There was no visitation as Gene’s wish was to be cremated. Memorials may be made in Gene’s name to the Burlington VFW Post or to the Donor’s Choice and may be left at the Bank of the West in Burlington.
