Gladys Hardy

View Video Tribute Longtime Burlington resident, Gladys May Hardy, passed away on February 24, 2008, at the Grace Manor Care Center at the age of 91. Gladys was born on October 26, 1916, in Hudson, Colorado, to James and Verva (Coy) Rickman. She was the third child and first daughter born to this union. Wilber Dale Hardy and Gladys were married in Raton, New Mexico, on July 17, 1950, at the First Methodist Church. W.D. and Gladys had one child, Marilyn. Gladys enjoyed church, Bible reading, embroidery and crewel stitching. Until her health kept her from gardening she raised vegetables and fruits, for canning, freezing, and to give to those without a garden. Her cucumbers and tomatoes were greatly appreciated by those she visited at Grace Manor. At the First Christian Church, Gladys was active in the women’s group and for several years aided the Bible School program by handling the attendance counting. W.D. and Gladys enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family at the First Christian Church in Burlington, Colorado on July 17, 2000. Gladys was preceded in death by her siblings: brothers Earl, Ralph, Clarence, Orin, and Dale Rickman; and sister Opal Waters and her husband. She leaves the family members who will cherish their memories of her life, husband Wilbur Dale Hardy of 57 years; daughter Marilyn Hudson of Yuma Arizona; and three grandchildren, Erica Hudson who is attending graduate school in St. Petersburg, Florida; Michael Hudson is working and residing in Yuma, Arizona, and Menolly Hudson is attending high school in Yuma, Arizona. Also surviving her are her sisters: Leona Higgins and husband Arthur and Grace Alee Blue. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends will also miss her presence. Funeral services for Gladys were held at the First Christian Church on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Dr. John Wrench officiated with music provided by Loren Lambert and Buelah Lambert. Visitation was held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am immediately prior to the services. Pallbearers were R.C. Crites, Rich Davis, Willard Stahlecker, Michael Hudson, Gary Neidig, and Larry Paige. Memorials may be made in her name to the Grace Manor Care Center or the First Christian Church and may be left at the Bank of the West, Burlington, Colorado.
