Harold Genthe

July 1, 1928 — August 11, 2013

Harold William Genthe was born at the family farm north of Burlington July 1, 1928 to Henry August and Frances Anna Jacobson Genthe. He attended elementary school at Beaver Valley Country School, then attended Burlington High School, graduating in 1945. On August 24, 1947 Harold married his high school sweetheart, Myrol Duaine Brown. To this union three children were born: Randy Lee, born August 7, 1952; Kristy Davonne, born December 18, 1956; and Linda Kay, born August 25, 1962. Harold accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at the First Christian Church in Burlington in 1959. Harold and Myrol raised their family on the farm northeast of Burlington. In addition to farming, Harold nearly always worked a second job to make ends meet. He drove a milk truck for Wilbur Richardson, picking up milk at dairy farms for delivery to the IXL creamery in Colorado Springs. He was also apprenticed as an electrician for a time to Byron McLain, and later worked with Al Lidke of Idalia, whose business Harold eventually bought. He ran Harold's Electric successfully for several years, and in 1978 became an electrical inspector for the State of Colorado. Harold did not especially enjoy farming, and in 1986 was happy to be able to leave it behind. Harold and Myrol moved from the farm into Burlington, where they lived until his passing on August 11, 2013. Harold is survived by his wife Myrol, their children Randy, Kristy, and Linda, his sister Valta Martens, his grandchildren Gage Curtis, Kelly Bates, Daniel Genthe, Scott Genthe, and ShaiLyn Bates, and a host of other relatives and friends.
