Henrietta Townsend

Henrietta Faye Townsend was born on November 3, 1909 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to parents, John and Mary Noble. She was the sixth of ten children, all of whom preceded her in death. At an early age she moved, with her family to Grand Junction, CO, where she attended grade school. The family then moved to Alamosa, CO where she attended high school, graduating at the top of here class in 1926. On June 8, 1928 she married Hal Townsend, to this union two children were born, Gloria and a son, Gale Lee. The little family moved to a farm in the south part of Lincoln County where they lived until the death of Gale Lee in 1934. Faye never recovered from the death. It was a definite turning point in her life. Hal, Henrietta and Gloria moved to Hugo in 1935 where they successfully owned the Townsend Implement and Pontiac Company for 20 years. She worked in the business as a bookkeeper and operations manager until it was sold in 1951. She and Hal were divorced in 1951, another turning point. She worked in the Lincoln County Welfare Department for 5 years and then moved to Colorado Springs, where she worked as a legal secretary. She then moved to Pueblo to be near her mother. She again served as a legal secretary and achieved Para-legal status in 1961. In 1988 she retired from her work and moved to Limon to be near her daughter and family. She became a resident of Prairie View Care Center in 2000. She died peacefully in Lincoln Community Hospital on October 9, 2005. This was the end of a life well lived. Henrietta was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Limon were she served as the church secretary for several years. She was a Grand Officer in the Eastern Star. Henrietta enjoyed reading and writing. She authored several books and numerous poems. She loved reading and reciting Shakespeare. She was preceded in death by her son, Gale Lee her parents, and nine siblings. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Gloria and husband Ken Liggett of Limon, CO; her grandchildren, Mike and Brenda Liggett of Limon, CO; her granddaughter, Kim and Dave Taussig of Limon CO; and seven great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Friday, October 14, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Limon United Methodist Church with Reverends Frank and Linda Hoover officiating.
