Jack Ivey

Jack Walter Ivey, 91, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on June 1, 2011. Jack was born Nov. 29, 1919 in Elbert County, Colorado to Mary Margaret (Bull) Ivey and Milo Earnest Ivey one of five children. When Jack was 5 the family moved from the homestead to Limon, Colorado where he graduated from Limon High School. He worked at the CCC Camp in Hugo, Colorado for 2 years previous to being drafted to the US Army. He served in the US Marching Band during WWII and was stationed at Camp Crowder, Missouri. On May 5, 1946 he married Doris Augusta Paul in Limon, Colo. While living in Limon he worked at the REA for a brief time and as a painting contractor. He was involved in civic activities: volunteer fire fighter, Red Cross instructor and lifeguard, Boy Scout Leader and many others. In 1964 Jack moved his family to Colorado Springs and soon opened Komac Color Center, serving painting contractors and developing a custom picture framing business. He retired from his store in 1983. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Lawrence George and Milo Earl Ivey. He is survived by his wife Doris and 3 children, David Ivey (wife Debi) St. Louis, MO. Nita Svoboda (husband Dave) Casper, WY. Kathryn Ivey Colo. Springs, CO. Jack has 5 grandchildren: Mark Ivey, Rachael Svoboda, Andrew Svoboda, Jared Skinner (wife Christina) Paul Skinner, and one great- granddaughter, Callista Skinner. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret (Ivey) Reynolds of Limon, CO, Alice (Ivey) Nulph of Littleton, CO and several nieces and nephews.
