Joe D. Brewer Jr., 61 of Sterling, CO passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation and family to receive friends will be held from 4-6 p.m., Friday, May 5 at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6, at Faith Methodist Church in Sterling, CO with Pastor Jodie Harless officiating. Joe will be laid to rest at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7 at Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon, CO.
Joe was born April 8, 1962, in Texarkana, Texas to Joe Davis Brewer Sr. and Ermalane (Taylor) Brewer. He grew up in Red Lick, TX, a small town outside Texarkana. He graduated from Hooks High School in 1980, and attended Stephen Austin State University, Nacogdoches, TX, graduating with an accounting degree. After college, in 1985 he moved to Colorado and took a job with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as a bank examiner, where he worked for 12 years.
In 1987, he met the love of his life, Lori, and they were married on July 29, 1989. Joe and Lori were blessed with two sons, Beau of Flagstaff, AZ and Brett of Durango, CO.
After 12 years with the FDIC, Joe held a couple of banking positions in Colby, KS and later in Limon, CO. Joe’s passion was spectator sports, especially youth sports. While in Limon, Joe became active with coaching youth baseball, football, and basketball. He also helped as an umpire for youth baseball and refereed youth basketball and football games. You could always find him at some high school game, supporting his team and the players.
Joe was also active in each of the communities he lived in, being on various boards like Economic Development, Education Foundations, Rotary Club, Lions Club, and church boards. He volunteered at many school and community events, whenever he could.
Joe and Lori moved to Sterling in 2018 to take a position with TBK Bank. Joe will be remembered for his story telling, his love for people and for his huge heart. He loved his family and friends dearly and will be missed by many.
Joe is survived by his wife Lori of the home; sons Beau (Amanda) Brewer of Flagstaff, AZ and Brett Brewer of Durango, CO; mother Erma Brewer of Texarkana, TX; sister Lydia Toon of Midland, TX; sister Vicki (Mark) Rowe of New Boston, TX and many nieces and nephews.
