John Pieper

June 21, 1923 — March 28, 2014

John L (Nap) Pieper passed away on March 28th, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Nap was born June 21, 1923 in Peyton Colorado to Albert L and Vinita E Pieper. He attended Peyton Schools and graduated in 1941. Afterward, he attended the University of Colorado before enlisting in the US Naval Air Corp. Following his service during World War II, he married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy Anne Lough. Nap obtained his law degree from Westminster College of Law and returned to Calhan to join his Father at Farmers State Bank of Calhan in 1952. Nap began his banking career as the Cashier. He progressed through the ranks in the Bank, ultimately buying control and becoming President of the Bank in 1974. Nap turned management of the Bank over to two of his children in 2000, but retained in the position of Chairman of the Board until his death. Nap was very active in the community. Locally, Nap served as Mayor of the Town of Calhan, Member of the Volunteer Fire Department, Chairman of the El Paso County Fair and Fair Association, Member and Past President of the Republican Club, Member of the Calhan United Methodist Church, El Paso County 4-H Foundation President, Past Commander of the VFW Post 5221, Past President of the Calhan Lions Club and Secretary and Treasurer of the Calhan Lions Club for over 30 years. Nap also served as the District Governor for Lions District 6SE. Nap was a Past Master and long serving Treasurer of the Ramah Masonic Lodge, Past Patron of Eastern Star, Honorary 33rd Degree Mason, and Al Kaly Shrine Member. Professionally, Nap served as the national President of the American Safe Deposit Association, Board Member of the Independent Bankers of Colorado, Member of the Colorado State Banking Board, Member of the Colorado Bankers Association and Member of the Colorado Insurers Association. During his tenure at Farmers State Bank, the Bank opened branches in both Falcon and Ellicott. Nap is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, John, his wife, Patty, and children Katie and Johnny and son, Randy, his wife, Debbie, and children, Zayna, Maija, Brennan, and Kytelyn; daughter, Joan, her husband Jack, and children Lori (Preston) and Lindsey (Taylor), and daughter, Candy ,her husband, Earl, and children, Cassie and Evan; and sister, Geraldine Schoen.
