Johnny Coryell

Johnny W. Coryell, son of Ira Debois and Hannah Ivalu Certain Coryell, was born on March 28, 1923, in Kingfisher, OK. He departed this life November 16, 2015, in Hugo, CO at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Johnny graduated from high school in Scott City, KS. After high school with World War II raging, Johnny decided to serve his country and joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Europe and was a part of Patton’s 3rd Army. Soon after being discharged from the Army, Johnny moved to Flagler, CO to work for his brothers. It was during this time that he met Daphne Vassios. They were married on March 7, 1947. To this union two daughters were born, Linda Coryell Rue and Janice Coryell Hiltner. Johnny was an implement dealer in Eastern Colorado for over 40 years. He was committed to providing for his family through hard work and always strived to build lasting relationships with customers, coworkers and his community. He was a member of the Flagler Lions Club, a trustee for the town of Flagler, and a 68 year member of the American Legion Post 81. Johnny enjoyed sports. He played basketball and tennis in high school and was an avid bowler for many years. He loved spending time with friends at the Legion and taking trips to Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents; Daphne Coryell; sister Alberta Rowe (Floyd); his brothers Deb (Hanna), Charles (Maggie Lee), Clarence, Bill (Em); and brother-in-law Walter Nuckols,Jr. Johnny is survived by his sister Mary Nuckols of Covington, LA; daughters Linda Rue of La Quinta, CA, Jan Hiltner and husband Jim of Limon, CO; grandchildren Lindsey Rue Wegner and husband Grant Wegner of Indio, CA, Landon Rue of La Quinta, CA, Stephanie Hodgin and husband Ryan of Longmont, CO, Erin Hiltner of Denver, CO; great granddaughter Ryanna Hodgin; long time companion Betty Kennedy, and a host of family and friends.
