Kenneth Noel Bennett, 83, of Agate, Colorado, died November 4, 2005 at the Lincoln Community Nursing Home in Hugo, Colorado. Ken was born at home on the family homestead on April 23, 1922, to Orren and Hulda Bennett. Ken would grow up on the family farm and attend the Agate school until the eighth grade. Ken was turned down by the U.S. Army because of heart problems during WWII, so he continued to farm and ranch with his parents during those years. Ken seemed to love the farm life, and he especially liked working around the horses, cattle and hogs he would raise for over half his life. After his father's death, Ken would care for his mother until her death many years later. Because of Ken's chronic heart problems, he was finally forced to move to Agate and retire from farm work. Ken's life in Agate after retirement, revolved around his large garden, chickens and handy-work he completed for some of his neighbors. In his spare time, Ken like to read western novels as well as gardening publications and local newspapers. Later, as Ken's health continued to deteriorate, his good neighbors made it possible for him to stay at home as long as he could.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Maurice. Kenneth is survived by his sister, Lois (Lawrence) Hasenbalg of Byers, Colorado; nephews Ron (Ann) Hasenbalg of Byers, Colorado, Tim (Catherine) Hasenbalg of Aurora, Colorado, and Dwayne (Cindy) Bennett of Longmont, Colorado. He is also survived by nieces Arlene Vetter (Chester) of Wiley, Colorado, Lynne (Gary) Peterson of Byers, Colorado, and Charlotte (Chuck) Hughlett of Longmont.
Graveside services for Ken will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon, Colorado.
Memorials may be made to the Agate Volunteer Fire and Rescue. (P.O. Box 146 Agate, Colorado 80101)
