Louise Balsick age 93 of Calhan Colorado passed away peacefully on March 14,2025. She was born south of Calhan on January 9,1932, the youngest child of Andy and Anna (Trojanovich) Lemesany. Louise attended school starting at the one room schoolhouse north of Calhan and graduating in 1950 from Calhan High School. While at Calhan High School she was a member of the girls basketball team which proudly won the El Paso County Championship in 1950. After graduation Louise worked for the phone company . Louise married Raymond Balsick on November 12,1950 and they were blessed with five children, Alan, Penelope, Andrew, Pamela and Adam. Louise not only was a devoted wife ,mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, she was also a hard working rancher. She had a gift for taking care of not only her family but of all the animals on the ranch north of Calhan. She spent many days and years planting and harvesting crops, milking and taking care of cows, horses, pigs, chickens and various other farm animals. She was honored in 1983 by The Museum of Natural History to be included in an exhibit about women in ranching. When Louise and Raymond retired from the farm, they moved to Falcon Colorado. Louise had always wanted to live in a forest so she planted many trees on their property and enjoyed years of living in her own forest. Louise enjoyed numerous hobbies and was widely known for her cooking and baking abilities and her card playing both of which she taught to her grandchildren. She loved to polka dance and go to Cripple Creek to gamble. Louise enjoyed being a member of several clubs including the Altar Society of St Michael's Catholic Church, The PTA of Calhan Schools, The International Polka Club, The National Slovak Society, The Nertz Club, The Prairie Home Club and The Pikes Peak Model A Club. Louise is survived by her sister, Lucille Bannister, her children, Alan Balsick of Lawrence Kansas, Penny and Walt Copeland of Hayden Colorado, Drew and Sandy Balsick of Colorado Springs Colorado, Pam Balsick of Grand Junction Colorado , Adam and Kristy Balsick of Calhan Colorado, twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Balsick, her parents Andy and Anna Lemesany, her brothers Richard Lemesany and William Lemesany, her brother-in-law Michael Balsick, sisters-in-law Leona Eurich and Priscilla Eurich, nephews Greg Balsick, Jim Balsick, Don Eurich, Pete Bannister and Russell Lemesany, neices Cherry Eyer and Patsy O'Donnell. A celebration of life will be held March 25, 2025 starting at 9 AM with a Rosary followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30. lunch will be served after her internment at the Juris Slovak Cemetery. Donations in her name may be made to St Michael's Catholic Church or The Eastern Plains Community Pantry of Calhan.
