Larry Joe Kelly, a lifelong resident of the Limon community, passed into eternity on December 23, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born on July 20, 1940, in Limon, Colorado, to Joseph and Donna (Hanners) Kelly. Larry graduated from Limon High School and was a member of the United States Army. Larry’s professional career spanned various organizations, including the Rock Island Railroad, the US Weather Service, and the US Post Office.Larry was an avid hunter and fisher; and he cherished the annual family camping and fishing trips to Creede, Colorado, where he could connect with nature and bond with loved ones. His talents extended beyond outdoor pursuits; he was skilled in woodworking, plumbing, and electrical work. In later years, he found joy in hosting bison on his pasture land, an endeavor that showcased his deep appreciation for the land and his love for animals. He held many roles throughout his life, yet none were more treasured than that of a grandfather. Known affectionately as ChooChoo Papa by his granddaughters, Riley and Alli, he devoted himself to nurturing their growth and creating lasting memories with them. Larry’s unwavering faith was a cornerstone of his life. He attended the Limon Bible Chapel and was known as a man of faith and a disciple of Jesus. His spiritual conviction was a source of strength and inspiration for his family.Larry is survived by two sons, Robert (Julie) of Castle Pines, Colorado, and Steven of Limon, Colorado, as well as his brother Jerry (Penny) of California. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and faith that will continue to resonate within the hearts of those he touched.A Celebration of Life will be held on January 10, 2025, at Love Funeral Home in Limon, Colorado, at 11:00 AM. Friends, family, and loved ones are welcome to reflect on a life well-lived and the indelible mark Larry leaves behind. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered.
