Lois Irene Petersen (Yonkers), born December 19 1932 in Englewood, Colorado, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 4, 2023 in Simla, Colorado. Lois married the love of her life, Darrall Petersen (Red), on February 9th 1962. Together they shared six children; Arlene DeLeon, Diana Nohr, Robin Christensen, Kenny Higdon, Dayna Sneddon, and Matt Higdon. They started their life together in Dublin, California where Red was a captain at the Hayward Fire Department. Lois loved and adored him for that and was so proud to tell everyone she knew. Not long after, they moved their family to Arnold where Lois pursued her love for horses and raised them for over 40 years. Eventually, they moved to Colorado in the early 1980s where she continued her horse journey by breeding and showing quarter horses. If you knew her, then inevitably you heard all about her prize possession Palomino stallion, Dombosa. Among her adoration for horses, she ultimately loved all animals. Especially dogs. Most first interactions started with the initial question, “Do you like dogs?”
As she got older, her work ethic never showed her age. She took a lot of pride in her independence and refused to ask for help. She loved being outdoors and taking care of her property, even if that meant running the tractor or climbing a ladder in her 80’s to get on the roof and paint. There wasn’t a lazy bone in her body, even in her final days. Lois had the biggest smile that would light up an entire room and was so contagious. She was a God-fearing woman and so devout in her faith, we are all certain we will see her on the other side. Although her time here on earth is complete, she will forever leave her legacy behind in all the people that know and love her.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband, her dear daughter Robin, and her mother and father. She is survived by her children Kenny Higdon, Dayna Sneddon (Boyd), Matt Higdon (Cynthia), Arlene DeLeon (Rich), Diana Nohr (Neil) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
