Mardella Lightle

Burlington resident Mardella Francis Marlene Lightle passed away on Sunday, April 17th, 2011, at the Kit Carson County Hospital while surrounded by family after a long and valiant battle against cancer. She was born on December 24th, 1962 in Burlington, Colorado, to Wauneta Rico and David Lightle. She spent most of her life between the towns of Burlington, Colorado; Goodland, Kansas; Colby, Kansas; Lowry City, Missouri; and Overland Park, Kansas. She spent the last years of her life back in her birthplace of Burlington. Mardella was a devoted mother and caregiver. She spent time volunteering at Burlington Elementary School helping prepare materials for teachers and students. Mardella loved to read Western novels and complete puzzles. Mardella died as a member of the Christian faith. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Kansas, on December 12, 1977. She spent much time in Bible study and was engaged in discussion of her faith with many people. She is now at rest in the arms of her Lord who will one day raise her from the dead. Mardella is survived by her two sons, Michael Garner and Quintin Cundiff, a daughter-in-law, Lindsay Cundiff, and a grandson on the way. She is also survived by her foster mother, Faith Scofield, her father, David Lightle, sisters Melanie White and Deeann Jones, and a brother, Rick Lightle. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her mother, Wauneta Rico.
