Mildred Bishop
Funeral services for Mildred H. Bishop were held Tuesday, November 9, 1993, at 2 p.m. at the Hendricks-Love Chapel in Burlington, with Rev. Robert Spears of the Burlington United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Burlington, with Hendricks-Love Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Mildred H. Bishop was born in Logan, N.M. July 1, 1907, to Alfred and Mildred Honeycutt. It was there that she met and married Kenneth Eugene Bishop, a cattle rancher.
They sold their ranch to the federal government for a game preserve and moved to Burlington in 1944, where they bought land and fed cattle.
At one time, they lived and penned cattle on the land where the Sonic is now located.
When the couple came to Burlington, they brought with them their three children: Annalee (Mrs. James Gonyou), Kenneth Earl (wife Marge), and Donald Vincent (wife Phyllis.)
Mildred also leaves behind nine grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
Kenneth preceded her in death in 1977.
Mildred cherished her Logan roots and went back every year to a school reunion until poor health did not permit the trip. She had many friends there among both the Anglo and Hispanic population, speaking fluent Spanish.
She was a talented painter, having painted with her good friend, Sally Bauder.
Mildred loved to garden and did so as long as her health permitted, giving away most of her produce. She loved to ride horseback and was a great seamstress and a wood carver. She also loved to travel.
Mildred was a devout Christian and was very active in the Burlington United Methodist Church.
She had never been in good health as she suffered from asthma and congestive heart trouble and was prone to respiratory ailments.
For the past several months, she willingly but reluctantly moved to the Burlington Rest Home. She died on Monday, Nov. 8, 1993.
Mildred will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
