Olen Tatkenhorst

Longtime Stratton, Colorado resident Roy Tatkenhorst passed away on August 21, 2006 at his home in Stratton. He was 68 years old. Olen Roy Tatkenhorst was born on September 28, 1937 in Spearman, TX. He was the oldest of four children born to Luther and Jewel Stowe Tatkenhorst. Roy as he was always called, moved from Texas to south of Bethune, and then to south of Seibert, graduating from Seibert High School in 1956. On April Fool’s Day in 1958, he married Shirley Cowgill. To this union three sons were born, Jeff Roy, Justin Scott and Sheldon Earl. Due to injuries from a tractor accident, Roy was handicapped at the age of 22, but he never let this get in his way of getting things done. He worked as a dispatcher, parts salesman, lawn mower repairman, and loved to drive tractor for Jack Lowe. He was also involved in the Stratton Fire Department for many years and the Odd Fellows Lodge. Roy is preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Michael Howard. He is survived by his wife Shirley of the home, his sons Jeff of Poncha Springs, CO, Justin and of Gillette, WY and Sheldon and his wife Donna of Stratton, CO; his grandchildren Levi, Cari, Travis, Amber, Michael and Crystal, and a great granddaughter Nevaeh Nicole. He is also survived by his sisters Alma and her husband Marvin Dove of Linwood, KS, and Bonnie and her husband Kay Larsen of Beverly Hills, FL, his brother Joe and his wife Carol Tatkenhorst of Burlington, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Graveside services were held on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 10:00 AM at the Seibert Cemetery in Seibert, Colorado with Pastor Dustin Sells officiating. Visitation was held on August 23, 2006 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington. Memorials may be given in Roy’s name to the Stratton or Seibert Ambulance fund and may be left at the First National Bank in Stratton or Seibert.
