On Sunday, October 15, 2023, Ray Dennis died peacefully at home, surrounded with prayer and by his family. We will all miss his humor, his smile, and his laughter. Ray was a simple, honest and hard-working man, but most importantly he was a devoted husband, a good father, a good grandfather, and to many others he was a good friend.
Ray was born on April 9, 1936, in Wynnewood, OK to D. D. and Charlene Dennis. In 1945, his family moved to Denver City, TX where he attended high school.
He served in the Navy from 1958 to 1962 aboard the USS Kawishiwi as part of the super fleet oiler 7th fleet. Soon after, he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Stanley, on January 16, 1963. They moved to Carlsbad, NM, and he went to work at the IMCC potash mine as a boiler operator. They had one child, their daughter Jeanna Rae Dennis. Ray loved Carlsbad and his many friends, but after working for 44 years and 57 years of marriage, they moved to Bennett, CO to live with their daughter Jeanna.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, mother and both his sisters, Wanza Kendrick and Nadine Goldston. He is survived by his brother Carrell Dennis (Dottie), his wife Barbara, his daughter Jeanna and her husband Deacon John Doubrava and three grandchildren, Ryan Doubrava (Alanna), Justin Doubrava (Melissa), Jessica Farley-Doubrava (Chris). Ray was a family man and the happiest day of his life was the birth of his daughter Jeanna, followed closely by the birth of his grandkids.
Ray was a patriot who loved God, his family and his country. He was quick to give a smile, advice and encouragement, but also was always willing to roll up his sleeves and offer help wherever he could. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am at the Byers Cemetery, in Byers, CO, on Thursday, November 16th. Deacon John Doubrava will be officiating.
