Robert Buck

Robert Keith “Boompa” Buck was born on December 1, 1920 in Vermillion, Ohio. He was the son of the late Edward and Addie (Fisher) Buck. He was raised and spent his adolescence and teens in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Libbey High School in Toledo in 1938 and shortly after enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps to spend the next year in Boulder City, Nevada. Shortly after returning to Toledo, still during the “Great Depression”, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and spent the next thirty years in various air bases including Texas, Miami Beach, Florida, Germany, Arkansas, North Dakota and finally retired at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado in 1970. Bob met his present wife, Florence in Denver and they were married on August 14, 1970. They shared over forty-one years of marriage. After a four year stint as a mail carrier in south Denver, they moved to Simla, Colorado where Bob lived until his death on July 31, 2011, he was 90 years old. He was active in the American Legion, loved to bowl and enjoyed watching the Simla Cubs football team. Bob is survived by his wife Florence, step daughter Arlene Kay, both of Simla, daughters Bonnie Handzlik, Dennis Buck, and Sheri (Doug) Smith all three of Texas. Also surviving are grandchildren Jennifer (Scott) Kimpson, Greg (Desiree) Smith, Elizabeth Handzlik, Andrew Buck, Jonathan Buck and Patrick Buck, Monty (Danni) Hankins, Shawnda (Craig) Hamacher and several great grandchildren.
