Roy Monks

Roy Hillard Monks was born January 10, 1919 in Syracuse, MO to Roy Mortimer and Edith Vashtie Monks. He left this life on June 20, 2010 in Colorado Springs. Roy (better known as Hick) was one of 13 children, which the parents moved their growing family to the West Ranch located between Hugo and Limon in 1930. Emma Dell Dole and Roy were married June 8, 1938.living in Limon for many years, while Roy worked for the Foster Lumber Company. In 1942 they moved to Colorado Springs where Roy worked on ground construction on the Camp Carson army base. Later they moved back to Limon with their daughter, Shirley, where Roy bought a small farm east of town. As time process he made some money on selling the small farm and moved into town for a short time. He then purchased the farm south of town where they remained until present time. Also during this time he worked for his brother, Homer, on the cement plant for many years along with the farming. In the years to come he ran a dairy, worked for his brother-in-law, Howard Dole, on the construction of homes, etc., and kept up the farm. He is survived by his wife, Emma, daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Terry Rector, son and wife,Wayne and Kathy Darnell.Also brothers, William, George, Gene and Frank Monks; sister, Huldah Igou, Thelma Rietz, Betty Joe and husband Jack Igou, Dorothy Gilles, four grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
