Selma Johnson

Selma Irene Johnson, 98, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on January 10, 2009, in Littleton, CO. Selma was born to Frank & May Voorhees in Glen Elder, Kansas on January 7, 1901. She graduated from Smith County High School in Smith Center Kansas in 1928. She married Austin Johnson in 1930 and they resided in Smith Center, Kansas until 1937 when they moved to Burlington, CO. Selma worked as a nurse at the Kit Carson County Hospital for several years. In 1957 they moved to Denver, CO where she resided until returning to Burlington in 1999 to live at the Legacy Assisted Living Center. Selma loved her tea time, crocheting, reading, spending time with family and traveling. She is survived by her loving daughter, Eloise Nash of Littleton, CO; and her brother, Millard Vorhees of Smith Center, Kansas. Selma had 19 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 7 great, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Selma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Austin, her sons, Boyd and Gene, and daughter, Joyce. Visitation will be held at the Love Funeral Home in Burlington, CO on Friday, January 16, 2009, from 6 - 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10 AM with Pastor John Wrench officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at the Fairview Cemetery in Burlington. In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorials be given to your Caring Hands Hospice in Burlington.
