Terry James

July 27, 1948 — May 24, 2016

Terry Marvin James was born July 27, 1948, in Goodland, KS, to Marvin and Shirley (Revert) James. He was the oldest of four children and spent nearly his entire life on the family farm 18 miles northeast of Burlington. He passed away in his home after a long battle with cancer on May 24, 2016. He attended Plainview Country School until it was consolidated with Burlington schools. He then went to school in Burlington where he was actively involved in FFA. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1967. After high school, he studied mechanics and graduated from Vo-Tech School in Goodland. He spent his life doing what he loved: farming and ranching. His eye for detail made him good at what he did. That trait later served him well by serving several terms on the board of Farm Credit Service of Southern Colorado. Whenever he could find time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and reading, particularly Clive Clusser novels. He also had a special gift for music, especially when it came to sharing his strong faith in Jesus and was a proud member of religious singing groups The Spokesmen Quartet and The Group. He would often help neighbor kids with their 4-H projects, as well as helping anyone in need. He especially took pride in his three sons, two stepsons and four grandchildren. Terry is survived by his wife Marilyn, his mother Shirley, brother Greg (Dawn), all of Burlington, CO; sisters Kathy (Kent) of Anacortes, WA, and Debbie (Bernie) of Denver; sons J.T. (Huey-tien) of Denver, Aaron (Liz) of Castle Rock and Teig of Englewood; and stepsons Brad (Becky) of Eagle, CO, and Brett (Cait) of Englewood. He also leaves behind four grandchildren: Ethan, Alex and Anna of Denver, and Jaxon of Castle Rock, along with many cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin.
