January 27, 1933 - December 21, 2024
With hearts full of gratitude for a life well-lived and deeply loved, the family of Velma M. Frank announces her passing into eternal life. Velma, a woman of unwavering faith, gentle humor, and boundless love for her family and children, was born on January 27, 1933, to Jacob and Mathilda Leikam (Gabel) near Jetmore, Kansas. She was the third of six children, raised with a strong foundation of faith, hard work, and devotion on the family farm.
Velma began her nursing career after earning her LPN license from St. Catherine's Hospital, where she met the love of her life, Herman J. Frank The two were united in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony on June 20, 1955, and together they built a life rooted in love and faith, welcoming six children into their
family: Jim (Tami & Trevor Williams - Limon, CO), Joe (Tammy & Rick Konecny - Dodge City, KS), Kathleen Coval (Loren - Dodge City, KS), JoAnn Ratzlaff (Doug - Limon, CO), John (Brenda - St. Charles, MO), and Tom (Donna - Broomfield, CO), Velma and Herman were blessed with ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Velma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman; her sons, Jim and Joe; her parents; and her siblings, Hilda, Eleanora, and Joann. She is survived by her siblings, Jacob (Junior) Leikam of Jetmore, KS, and Mildred Armstrong of Manhattan, KS, as well as a legacy of family and friends who cherish her memory.
Velma's life was a testament to her Catholic faith. A devoted parishioner at St. Lawrence Catholic Church (Jetmore, KS), Sacred Heart Parish (Dodge City, KS), and Our Lady of Victory Church (Limon, CO), Velma found her strength in God's grace. She attended Sunday and Daily Mass, prayed the Rosary fervently, and lived out her faith in every act of kindness.
While raising her children and after, Velma channeled her love for little ones into caring for children in her home in Dodge City and later at the Limon Childcare Development Center. Her role as "The Best Mother Babysitter Ever" brought her immense joy and allowed her to share her nurturing heart with countless children and families.
Velma will be remembered for her steadfast devotion to her family and faith, her warm sense of humor, and her boundless generosity. Her care for others was constant, her prayers unceasing, and her love enduring. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, and charity for her family and all who knew her.
As the heavens rejoice, we are left with a lifetime of cherished memories. Velma was a gift, a bounty of love, and a model of grace. She will be deeply missed, but her light will continue to shine in our hearts.
Visitation will be held 6:00-7:00 pm with a Rosary following at 7:00 pm January 2, 2025 at Loves Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am Friday, January 3, 2025 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
