Longtime Cheyenne Wells resident, William Bill Paul Thyne passed away on June 1, 2012 at the Keefe Memorial Hospital. He was 90 years old.
Bill was born on September 20,, 1921 to William and Mary (Baker) Thyne. He grew up in Stratton, Colorado and graduated from high school in Elizabeth. On September 10, 1942 he joined the Army and proudly served as a B-24 flight engineer and gunner in Italy during WW II.
After being discharged from the Army, Bill moved to Cheyenne Wells where he worked in the grocery business for over 25 years. In 1959, he married Leota Williams Jones and became a loving father to her daughter, Linda and son, Ken.
After their marriage, Bill and Leota became sole owners of the Thyne Grocery and Market and worked as a team to build a successful business over the next sixteen years. In 1972, they built a new grocery store which is still an important part of the community.
After their retirement in 1976, they traveled around the country in their RV. They both enjoyed playing cards and Bill continued to serve his community by delivering Meals on Wheels for several years.
Bill was preceeded in death by his loving wife, Leota, his parents William and Olive Thyne, brothers; Dan Thyne and Gene Thyne; sisters, Ruth Spurlin, and Mary Kay Flippin.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Linda Horn and husband, Rod of Castle Pines, CO; son Kenneth and wife Kimberly Thyne of Saratoga, WY; four grandchildren, Kelly Horn of Roanoke, TX; Chris (Jennifer) Horn of Doylestown, PA; Kevin (Martha) Horn of Lafayette, CO; Jennifer Moore of Fort Collins, CO; and eight great-grandchildren, along with multiple nieces, nephews, friends and family.
